as a lesbian, there’s already barely any media that truly represents us in japan. being genderqueer on top of that? tough luck finding anything. wataoshi has some of the best representation i’ve ever seen- and the author truly understands intersectionality. yuu sacrificing everything to transition- and, afterwards, getting to be with misha- she means the entire world to me. it breaks my heart that she had to give up her chance of claiming the throne, not because she particularly wanted it but because that isn’t something she should have ever had to do. but the world isn’t fair, and wataoshi never shies away from that. yuu would rather be locked away in a convent for the rest of her life than have to live as a prince, and i know that feeling so, so well. i’m so grateful the author addresses the importance of gender affirming care. i know and have known so many people like misaki. I’M someone like misaki. rae was willing to give up anything, including her secrets that could get her killed, to ensure yuu’s mental safety. queer solidarity is real. i am literally crying as i’m writing this i am so emotional over this manga.
ユーちゃん、やっとお姫様の姿をみんなに見せられたね。おめでとう。あなたは何にも悪くないよ。罪なんて一つもない。みんなユーちゃんを応援してるからね。ずっと幸せでいてね。
p.s. yuu is also quite literally the most gorgeous girl i’ve ever seen. i don’t even mean post-transition- she’s beautiful. i adore her, always.
p.p.s. rod loves his baby sister so much. he would do anything for her and i’m so glad we got to see a bit of their dynamic. i hope they still get to see each other every once in a while, and i’m sure rod will miss her, but better to miss her because she’s living in a nunnery rather than because she’s succumbed to misaki’s fate.
