コンパクトにまとめらた良書ですが、98フレーズって、中途半端です。後2つで収録数100とキリが良かったのになぜ、もう一息頑張らなかった？
以下は私の備忘録。
著名なのもありますが、その人だから価値のある言葉(ヘレン・ケラー)、正確な英語で覚えておくと一目置かれる表現(クラーク博士、ドラッカー、エジソン)などをピックアップ。

ちなみに、トランプの言葉は大統領になる前のものです。(本書は2012年初版、トランプ大統領が誕生したのは2017年が最初です)

「今日という日は、残りの人生の第一歩である」(Today is the first day of the rest of your life.)とか、「絶対に成功すると言うつもりでやれ」(Act as if it were impossible to fail.)など、98の名言を集めたもの。簡単な「解説」と「使い方」（使用例、ダイアローグ）も載っている。
こういう名言って共感できるものを見つけたりすると嬉しいと思うし、ここという時に知っていればかっこいいよなあ、とかとてもミーハーな動機で買ってしまった。でも、あんまり共感できるのはなかったなあ。「人生は興奮に満ちいている仕事で、もっとも興奮するのは、他人のために生きるときだ」(Life is an exciting business and most exciting when it is lived for others.)とかかな。右側には著者の解説があるが、トンチンカンな文法の解説が載っていてげんなりするとともに、使用例のダイアローグも、無責任というかそんな使い方普通できないよな、とか思ってしまって、いっそのこと名言だけを200くらい載せた方が良かったんじゃないの、とか思ってしまった。(2013/09/--)
