この本は、『神社図鑑 ぼくの近くにはどんな神さまがいるの？』の英語版です。
An Illustrated Guide to Shrines by Shuto, an elementary school student who appeared on TV Asahi's“Sandwich Man & Ashida Mana's Hakase-chan.” The book is fully illustrated and in full color, so elementary school students and up can enjoy reading it.
The first half of the book introduces famous episodes from the “Kojiki,” the oldest book in Japan, which has a difficult image.
In the latter half of the book, you will enjoy learning about shrines and Japanese culture that you may or may not know, including shrine buildings such as Torii gate and komainu (guardian dogs), how to offer prayers at shrines, festivals, etc.
Adults will also enjoy learning about shrines and Japanese culture, such as “Animals in Shrines,” “World Heritage Shrines,” “Attractive Torii gate throughout Japan,” and “Deities also have their area of specialty!” The contents of the book will be enjoyable for both children and adults to become familiar with shrines and Japanese history.

神社図鑑のタイトルどおり、図・写真・イラストでわかりやすく詳しく神社と日本の歴史を関連づけて解説されています。
「そうだったのか！」を関心させられる内容が豊富で、157ページから始まる「鳥居の研究」は圧巻でした。
神社の入口を象徴し、俗世間と神域の境目をつなぐ鳥居がこんなにもバラエティ豊かだったことを初めて認識しました。

神社について、古事記などの神話や歴史なども踏まえて、非常に詳しく紹介された本。普通なら、控えめな説明にしてしまいがちなこと(古事記あるある 「美人としか結婚しない」など)も、ズバズバと紹介してくれている素晴らしい本。題名にも書いてありましたが、作者が小学生なのだそうで、なるほど！と納得しました。でも、小学生とは思えない濃密で整理された内容で、分かりやすさ抜群です。素晴らしい。
表紙のイラストも含め、イラストの多くが小学生の作者によるものだそうで、楽しくてカラフルで可愛いイラストが、ページを開くたびに出てきて、とても楽しい本です。

内容も面白かったが、「好きなことを突き詰めることができるってすごい」と感心。この本は図鑑だが、さかなクンの「一魚一会」の読後感と似ている気がする。

小田凱人さんの本、ヨシタケシンスケさんの「おしごとそうだんセンター」の後に読み、どれも子供達には色々な可能性があることを教えてくれる本で、我が子にもぜひ読んでほしいと思いました。
